The Rangers are one of the hottest teams in the NHL over the past month. They have jumped to third in the Metropolitan Divison, two points behind the Devils and four points behind the first-place Hurricanes. But they may have to go a few games without one of their best players in Chris Kreider. How will they replace him? Well, it’s time for Alexis Lafreniere to show the Rangers what he’s got.

To talk about that and everything Rangers, we bring you a new episode of the “Up In The Blue Seats” podcast with Mollie Walker and me. The Post’s Larry Brooks joins us to talk Kreider, Lafreniere, Filip Chytil and Ryan Reaves’ comments on how his time with the Blueshirts ended. Rangers radio play-by-play announcer and ESPN Radio NY host Don La Greca also joins the show for a fun interview on calling games, his fandom, radio show and his career.

Up In The Blue Seats Podcast with Jake Brown & Mollie Walker:

  • KREIDER INJURY: They don’t expect it to be long-term. This is the time for Alexis Lafreniere to step up. He has been slow in developing, but now will get pushed up and has a chance this next week for more ice time.
  • RYAN REAVES RETURN: Ryan Reynolds and Henrik Lundqvist stole the show on the jumbotron Tuesday night in the Rangers’ 4-3 shootout win over the Wild. It was also the return of Ryan Reaves to MSG, who got a nice ovation. Reaves had some intriguing comments about the end of his time with the Rangers. Gerard Gallant learned of those comments in the presser from Mollie.

Larry Brooks Interview:
NY Post Hockey Hall of Fame columnist

  • KREIDER/LAFRENIERE: Lafreniere will get some more time until Kreider returns. Let’s see if getting pushed up will push him to play better.
  • REAVES COMMENTS: Rangers handled Reaves ending just fine. He was not active for a bunch of games, which is a sign a team may be trying to move you.
  • CHYTIL TIME: Would like to see Filip Chytil get more ice time. He is playing better this season and deserves some more chances.

Don La Greca Interview:
ESPN Radio NY 98.7FM Rangers play-by-play announcer, pre and postgame host, co-host of The Michael Kay Show

  • CALLING RANGERS GAMES: Do you ever operate like it’s a talk show when calling games with Dave Maloney on radio?
  • CURRENT RANGERS/TRADE DEADLINE: Likes where this Rangers team is at and thinks they will make a move at trade deadline. Patrick Kane makes too much sense to not go for it.
  • RANGERS FANDOM: Grew up a Devils fan being from New Jersey, but since calling games and doing pre/postgame, had to make the switch to the Rangers. They have treated him well.
  • RADIO FUTURE: Loves hosting the show and would like to do it as long as he can.
