A’ja Wilson accuses Biden of not inviting WNBA champs to White House after Stanley Cup tweet

President Joe Biden isn’t making any friends with the WNBA’s Las Vegas Aces.

On Tuesday, the Vegas Golden Knights clinched their first Stanley Cup in a 9-3 rout over the Florida Panthers, prompting a congratulatory tweet from the commander-in-chief.

“Congrats to the Vegas @GoldenKnights on their first Stanley Cup in just their sixth season,” Biden tweeted Wednesday afternoon. “The first major professional franchise in such a proud American city. Today, the team and entire community are champions.”

But in giving praise to the Golden Knights, Biden seemed to annoy A’Ja Wilson of the Aces, who won a WNBA championship last fall.

“Twitter not letting me quote tweet potus tweet but …BFFR when is our White House visit cause,” Wilson tweeted after Biden’s social media post.

Though the Golden Knights did come into existence (2017) before the Aces came to be (2018), the basketball team did in fact win a championship before the NHL squad did.

Led by coach Becky Hammon, the Aces took the WNBA Finals series over the Connecticut Sun, 3-1, last September, becoming the first major sports franchise to bring a title to Las Vegas.

Biden did not offer any congratulations on that win last fall, and as Wilson noted, the team did not get an invite to the White House.

Wilson, who averaged more than 20 points per game during the team’s postseason run last year, had a more positive reply to SportsCenter’s tweet that mentioned both the Aces’ and Golden Knights’ championships.

Either way, it will be the second parade for Sin City in nine months when the Golden Knights get to celebrate around town with the Stanley Cup.

Thousands came to see the Aces go down the famous Las Vegas strip, even if the president did not offer his praise.
