Angel Reese gets 2023 NBA Draft wish as Pelicans pick cousin Jordan Hawkins

LSU’s Angel Reese is very happy with where her cousin landed in the 2023 NBA Draft.

Shortly after the New Orleans Pelicans selected her cousin, UConn guard Jordan Hawkins, with the 14th overall pick on Thursday night, the star Lady Tigers forward took to Twitter to celebrate.

“Proud of youuu! We in the CITYYYY,” the 21-year-old Reese posted.

The message came hours after Reese told the Pelicans to “get right tonight,” hoping they’d take Hawkins, 21.

“@PelicansNBA get right tonight with @golive23 you getting a KILLA!” she exclaimed Thursday afternoon.

Hawkins, a 6-foot-5 sophomore, entered this year’s NBA draft after an epic NCAA Tournament run where he averaged 16.3 points per game on 50 percent shooting en route to a title for the Huskies.

Reese is a winner in her own right as she led the Lady Tigers to their first national championship in program history.

She has long supported Hawkins, even sending him a special message before his title game.

“This the only weekend I’m cheering for the Huskies, but good luck. Go get that natty. Do it for the DMV. You know we family first,” Reese said.

With Hawkins landing in New Orleans, the two champion cousins — who grew up in Maryland — are now in close proximity.

“This is for all the kids from Gaithersburg, Maryland, that didn’t think they could do it,” Hawkins said after winning the national championship against the San Diego Aztecs in April.

“I did it. Now you can do it, man,” Hawkins said. “Me and Angel paved the way. We did it.”
