Madonna’s family feared they would ‘lose her’ during health scare that led to ICU stay: report
Madonna’s family feared the worst and thought they “may lose her” after the pop legend was found unresponsive in New York City on Saturday, according to a report.
A relative of the superstar opened up about the gravity of the scary ordeal that resulted in Madonna spending multiple days in the ICU.
“For the past couple of days, no one really knew which direction this was going to turn, and her family was preparing for the worst,” the unidentified family member told the Daily Mail.
Their nerve-wracking fears kept them from disclosing the terrifying episode until Wednesday after Madonna was released from the ICU to a regular ward at the unnamed hospital in the Big Apple.
“Everyone believed that we may lose her and that has been the reality of the situation,” the relative said.
Madonna’s longtime manager, Guy Oseary, said Wednesday that his client was hospitalized after she “developed a serious bacterial infection.”
Though the type and cause of bacterial infection have yet to be revealed, the “Vogue” singer’s family believe it was brought on by her extreme practice schedule.
Her relatives claim she has been pushing herself to the brink ahead of her highly-anticipated “Celebration” tour, including rehearsing six days a week.
Sources close to the tour’s production also noticed that Madonna was “strenuously rehearsing” and putting in 12-hour days in the weeks before she fell ill.
The 84-date tour across North America and Europe was set to kick off in less than three weeks but has since been postponed.
“This really woke her the f–k up,” the family insider told the DailyMail.
“She has not been living as healthy a life as she should be for her age, and she has been wearing herself thin over the past couple of months.
“She thinks that she is still young when, in fact, she is not. She also believes that she is invincible.”
Despite acknowledging that the tour and her intense schedule were to blame, Madonna is not happy with the postponement.
The 64-year-old’s loved ones have banned discussion of her tour from her bedside in an effort to decrease her stress.
“Everything, including this tour, is taking a backseat right now and no one is allowed to even mention anything work related around her because she will lose her s–t”‘ the relative said.
“She will put her career and her fame before her health until the day she is dead.”
The Grammy winner appeared to be in great spirits just days before her health scare.
She posted several behind-the-scenes photos from rehearsals on Instagram last week in an aptly titled caption: “The Calm Before The Storm.”
The “Material Girl” songstress was intubated for at least one night before having the tube removed. She is now alert and recovering.
Oseary said that the Queen of Pop’s health was improving and that she is “expected to make a full recovery,” but did not say whether new tour dates might be unveiled anytime soon.
