Olivia Dunne is excited for her boyfriend, Pirates pitcher Paul Skenes, to join The Show.
The Pirates announced Wednesday that Skenes will join their MLB roster and make his big league debut against the Cubs on Saturday.
Dunne reacted to the news on her Instagram Story, sharing a highlight video of Skenes and adding the caption “…here we go!”
Dunne is a famous gymnast at LSU, where Skenes pitched in college.
The right-hander is a flamethrower whose MLB debut has been highly anticipated.
This season, pitching in Triple-A Indianapolis, Skenes has 45 strikeouts in 27 1/3 innings to go along with a 0.99 ERA and 0.91 WHIP.
He hit 102 mph on the radar gun in Spring Training earlier this year and reached 101 in his last start on Sunday.
“I think the biggest thing was just getting out there and pitching in front of people, because adrenaline is a big thing,” Skenes told reporters after his impressive Spring Training debut. “Just kind of wanted to see where we’re at.”
This past March, Dunne spoke to ESPN about why their relationship has flourished.
“He’s pretty level-headed all the time — that’s what I love about him — and I think we’re a really good pair because of that,” she said. “Because I have such a crazy lifestyle and things get thrown my way all the time. Sometimes, my emotions can sway and he’s very level, and I just think it’s a very good match.”
Skenes spoke to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette last August about what it was like to be one half of a famous couple.
“It’s nice, for sure,” Skenes said at the time. “It can be a pain in the butt sometimes, to be honest, in terms of actually going somewhere.
“If one of us went out in Baton Rouge by ourselves, there’s probably gonna be someone there asking for something — picture, autograph, whatever.”
