Tre’ Morgan saves run with unreal play as LSU walks off to College World Series final

LSU’s Tre’ Morgan was doing anything he could to get the Tigers to the College World Series final.

In a win-or-go-home game against top-ranked Wake Forest, the first baseman made an incredible acrobatic play to save a run before Tommy White’s walk-off homer in the 11th inning sealed a 2-0 win for LSU.

With the game in a scoreless tie at the top of the eighth inning, the Demon Deacons put runners on the corners with just one out.

Wake Forest shortstop Marek Houston looked to break the ice with a push bunt down the first base line, but Morgan — a 2022 All-SEC Defensive Team selection — wasn’t having any of it.

The first baseman charged in on the chopper, fielding it about 40 feet from home plate before he quickly short-arm shoved it to home plate as he fell to the ground.

His quick throw was on the money, and he nailed second baseman Justin Johnson, who tried to dive in head-first.

Wake Forest challenged the call, but it stood upon review, and the game stayed scoreless on the Gold Glove-like defense from Morgan.

It was a bit of revenge for Morgan, who had been thrown out on a similar play against Wake Forest on Monday.

In the eighth inning of that contest, Morgan was sent home on an infield grounder and was cut down at the plate, and the game remained tied at 2-2.

Wake Forest went on to later win that game, 3-2.

But in this contest, it was the Tigers who came out on top after they finally broke through in the 11th.

With a runner on first base, White slammed a pitch down the middle way over the left field wall, sending LSU to the final against Florida.
